Dear Travellers,
Do you have a travel destination that you feel is wheelchair-friendly? Or locations that even the hearing and visually impaired can enjoy as tourists? I heard that physically challenged travellers are putting some favourite spots like Greece on the itinerary in greater numbers than ever before... ... and there might be places that are improving in that infrastructure like washrooms, railings, stairways and walkways as well. Would love to hear about these spots, and also for everyone to learn from the unique experiences shared from varying perspectives! Any Travel Tips of this genre also also most welcomed to be posted and written here. Looking forward to everyone's posts and sharing of travel experiences! shawn www.GuideGecko.com Buy Travel Guides and Become a Writer or sell your own! |

Travel for those who have mobility challenges has improved dramatically worldwide to make access for wheelchairs possible with ramps, handrails, accommodating bathroom doorways, wheelchair accessible showers and detailed consideration for the wheelchair visitor at hotels, attractions, and various forms of transportation.
Let me make the following suggestions to maximize your ease and comfort in your travels: Consider a beachside destination that is not built into a mountainside. There are destinations that are truly flat: Cancun, Miami Beach, Grand Cayman, Aruba, Curacao, to name a few. There are also beach resorts in mountainous places that are, themselves, flat. One such place is Breezes Runaway Bay in Jamaica. Consider staying at an all-inclusive resort. The value of that is that you really don’t need to leave the resort because you have everything there. This generally includes multiple restaurant/dining options as well as your evening entertainment so once you are there you won’t have to be jostled around taking taxis to restaurants that may present narrow aisles and other challenges. Like all the other guests, you’ll find the experience of having everything you need for a happy vacation tucked away at the resort itself. You might also want to consider a cruise. Big ships are equipped with wheelchair-friendly cabins, elevators, and, like the all-inclusive resort, you have all your entertainment, dining options, activities located on easy to reach decks where everything is flat or has a ramp. Let me know what you are considering and if you need any further tips/insights into your trip planning. Bon Voyage!
