Birr Castle
Birr Castle in County Offally, the birth place of the 3rd Earl of Rosse who in the 1840's invented a telescope with a 6 foot in diameter mirror handmade and invented from a unique copper, tin and zinc alloy by the 3rd Earl, which could see further and more clearly into space than any previous. Birr Castle is the site of a science museum dedicated to the inventions and studies performed by the 3rd and 4th Earl of Birr.

The 4th Earl of Rosse is noted for having studied the Lunar landscape and carrying out heat reflection studies which proved to within 6% accuracy of actual recorded temperatures when Apollo 11 landed on the moon 100 years later.
