The lands and manor that make up Strokestown Park was sold in 1981 to Jim Callery, a local Irish business man who needed more lands for his trucking business. After the manor house was purchased, Jim discovered papers that documented the families affected by the Great Irish Famine in the form of eviction notices, pleas from poor tenants needing rent relief or seeds for planting, lists of people being put forward for immigration story of the famine.
