Brenda's Full Bio:
Brenda Sprague was born in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1973, she graduated summa cum laude from Saint Frances College in Loretto, Pennsylvania with a degree in business administration and joined the United States Foreign Service. She served at the Consulate General in Seville; the U.S. Sinai Field Mission; and the Consulate General in Jerusalem. She also served in the Bureau of Administration; for the Multinational Force and Observers; in the Bureau of Politico-Military Affairs; and in the Bureau of Near Eastern and South Asian Affairs. As a Congressional Fellow in 1984 and 1985 she also worked for Congressman Dante Fascell.
Mrs. Sprague spent nine years in State’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security. In 1997, she was named the Director of the Office of Language Services, the organization that provides high level interpreting and translating services to the federal government, and was admitted to the Senior Executive Service.
In July 2008, Mrs. Sprague was appointed Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Passport Services in the Bureau of Consular Affairs, where she oversees a network of 29 agencies and centers responsible for the acceptance, adjudication, and issuance of U.S. passports.
In 2011, Federal Computer Week Magazine included her in its “Federal 100,” list of top executives from government, industry, and academia who impacted government information systems in 2010. Also in 2011, President Obama awarded her a presidential rank award of “Meritorious Executive.”
Mrs. Sprague is married and has two adult sons and a grandson.
