Album Description: Ireland's beautiful Lough Swilly was the setting for a dramatic story which changed the life of a foul mouthed slave trader. John Newton went on to pen one of the most famous and well-loved songs of all time - "Amazing Grace". A violent storm in the Atlantic Ocean crippled Newton's ship. When all hope was lost, the Greyhound found refuge in Buncrana Lough Swilly, County Donegal in the North West of Ireland. Years later, Newton wrote "Amazing Grace" to chart his personal spiritual journey which began with his miraculous escape from death. He went on to become a prolific hymn writer and, later in life, to mentor William Wilberforce in his fight against the Slave Trade. Wilberforce is regarded by many as the greatest Parliamentarians of all time and went on to abolish slavery.
This story connects directly with nearly all people either through the song that inspires their faith or the hand of history they have been touched with through the actions of Newton and Wilberforce.
Inishowen celebrates it connection to Amazing Grace and invites you all to come visit and share with us.
