County Antrim can boast some of the best Golf Courses in the world the jewel in the crown is undoubtedly Royal Portrush the venue of the 2019 Open Championship making it the second time in its long history, first played in 1860 at Prestwick when Willie Park was the first person to win, it was played at Royal Portrush in 1951 when Max Falukner lifted the Claret Jug and received a cheque for £300 how things have changed!
There are many other fine golf courses in the county such as Ballycastle, Carrickfergus, Dunmurry, Galgorm Castle, Hilton Templepatrick, Malone, Massereen, Rathmore, Whitehead giving the visitors a choice of good links and parkland courses.

Kilkenny City is located in south-east Ireland on both banks of the River Nore. A popular tourist town, it has a wealth of activities, amenities and attractions to offer visitors who come from around the world to enjoy its unique atmosphere. The origins of Kilkenny lie with Saint Canice, a 6th century Irish saint who founded a monastic settlement on the site—little remains of this early period except a 9th century round tower at St Canice’s Cathedral. Today, Kilkenny is the most perfect surviving example of a medieval city in Ireland. The great building skills of the Normans are evident in large “set piece” buildings like the majestic 12th century Kilkenny Castle, 13th century Saint Canice’s Cathedral, the Black Abbey and Rothe House, to name but a few. The city’s linear streetscape, with attractive stepped slipways and cobblestones, makes it the true medieval capital of Ireland. Kilkenny Castle Park offers a number of short walking trails in the city centre that encompass an extensive lawn area, rose garden, wooded areas and a duck pond. Alternatively, longer riverside walks along the River Nore are available—an 11km trail follows the river downstream to the picturesque village of Bennettsbridge. Kilkenny has a long-standing reputation as a hub of creativity. The Crafts Council of Ireland, Kilkenny Design Workshops, the National Craft Gallery and a number of artisan craft workers all operate in venues and studios in the city and beyond. A ‘Made in Kilkenny’ Craft Trail brochure detailing all of Kilkenny’s craft industries is available from the Tourist Information Office on Rose Inn Street. Kilkenny’s high-profile festivals attract visitors from all over the globe every year. The fun begins with the Rhythm and Roots Festival in May, followed by the Cat Laughs Comedy Festival in June. The Kilkenny Arts Festival takes place over 10 days in August and offers an extensive programme of the visual art, theatre and music for all ages. In autumn, the Celtic Festival, Savour Kilkenny Food Festival and Kilkenomics take centre stage in the city. With a wide range of accommodation options to suit all tastes and budgets and the many high-profile events that take place there every year, Kilkenny City is a destination you can’t afford to miss.
