Dear Mrs. Smith:
Some difficult lessons are best learned early in life so that those lessons get factored in all decisions for the present and future. When everything goes smoothly, we are often lulled into thinking the road ahead will always be easy to navigate. When we are confronted with adversity, especially severe adversity, it jars us into realizing how fragile life is, how unpredictable, and helps us to sort out what is not worth fussing about from what is really important. So many people talk about their dreams of traveling when, by a little prioritizing here and there and a few sacrifices here and there they could go anywhere they want when they want to go and not wait a lifetime hoping for some distant opportunity to travel.

I go to so many places, expensive places, where, walking beside me in a museum or on a beautiful and historic street, there is a back-packing student who will shop for dinner in a cheese shop and a bakery and overnight in a hostel, but there right there with me in places like Monaco or Budapest or Paris or Rome. And if you really value education, there really is no better place than the world itself as the most valuable classroom experience.

I am so glad that I learned about the situation faced by the Webber Township HS Senior Class. I am even happier that I could play a role in uplifting their spirits by providing them with an opportunity to celebrate their graduation and highlight this transitioning period for them in a carefree environment in Branson, MO to put back into the equation the fun of a senior trip that seemed for a while to be something that wouldn't/couldn't happen.
I guess that the lesson of this part of the story is that life's surprises can sometimes also be very good. These teens deserve at least that! They are a very special group of teens and I'm sure their families, friends, and teachers are very proud of them. I know I sure am!
